What Does the Scam Look Like for Amazon Sellers?

An Amazon buyer will receive an email that states they need to log onto their account to fix an error. For Amazon sellers, they also receive an authentic-seeming email that tells them that their payment information is compromised or the need to verify something. Once the provided link is clicked, buyers and sellers both will be taken to a site to provide personal details. Phishing scams have a double purpose. They target sellers accounts to get access to personal details and bank accounts, but also to the customer accounts that are attached to the seller.

How Can You Protect Your Business from Phishing Scams?

Sure, passwords can be troublesome to keep up with, but they are very important to keep your account secure. Thieves will always try something new, and scams are quite sophisticated. Change passwords regularly and be sure to use passwords that are not easy to guess. Use password generators and disable the autofill options.

Look carefully at emails that come to you, especially those that tell you about a problem and ask you to rectify the problem through a link. Always check to be sure that you recognize the address that sent the email. If you think that it might be legitimate, don’t click the link to solve the problem. Go directly to your account, log in from there, and check to see if there is something missing.  It is important to always check the links and the URLs provided in any email.

  • Set up extra security whenever you log in to your account. A two-step verification process is better than a quick click on a login button, even when you are in a hurry!
  • Use a VPN to protect your account. A VPN is a virtual private network that protects your privacy, browsing history and personal information.
  • Be sure to do what you can to protect yourself and your business. Don’t forget that the scammers can capture the personal information from your customers as well.
